This Privacy Notice explains how Renew Tech Recycling (Pty) Ltd ("Renew Tech", "we", "us") handles the personal information you provide when you use this website or contact us about selling electronic scrap. We process personal information for legitimate business, transaction, fraud-prevention, safety and legal-compliance purposes in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and other applicable South African law.
Effective: 15 September 2026
Information we collect
When you submit a price estimate, pickup request or contact us, we may collect:
- Your name and contact details (mobile number, email if provided);
- Your town or area, and pickup address where relevant;
- Details and photographs of the items you want to sell;
- Your customer type and preferences.
How we use it
We use your information to review your request, assess and grade items, arrange qualifying pickups, confirm buying prices, and respond to enquiries. We do not publish your personal information publicly.
Consent
By submitting a form you confirm that you consent to us processing your personal information for these purposes and that you own or are authorised to sell the items described.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Internal commercial information — including downstream buyer identities, rates and margins — is kept confidential and is not shared through this website.
Contact enquiries
If you submit an enquiry through the contact form, we use your name, mobile number and message to respond to your enquiry. Enquiry information is visible only to authorised Renew Tech staff and is not published.
Photographs and pickup evidence
Photographs and item details you submit with a price estimate or pickup request help us review the items and consider an offer or collection. New customer uploads are stored privately and are available only to authorised Renew Tech users through controlled access. They are not shown on public request tracking. The evidence review status of a pickup is kept internal; only the approved customer-facing status appears on Track a Request.
Seller verification (identity and address)
If, after reviewing your pickup request, we believe collection is appropriate, Renew Tech may ask you to verify your identity and address through a separate secure link. This helps us confirm ownership, reduce fraud and keep collections safe. Verification is requested only after preliminary review and is never required for contact enquiries, price estimates or initial pickup submissions.
The secure verification link carries no personal information — only a token. You will be asked to provide identity and address evidence only if you choose to proceed. Your documents are uploaded to private storage and are accessible only to administrators and authorised verification staff; they are not displayed publicly, not shown on public request tracking, not included in WhatsApp messages and not sent to analytics. Identity or passport numbers are masked in internal lists. Document viewing and downloading are permission-checked and audited.
Verification information is retained according to the purpose for which it was collected and applicable legal requirements. Where verification supports a completed regulated second-hand-goods transaction, identity and related transaction records may need to be retained for at least the statutory minimum period. Where no transaction is completed and no other lawful retention basis applies, records should be removed when they are no longer reasonably required. You may raise a privacy enquiry about your verification information using the contact details below.
Security, storage & retention
We use access controls and other appropriate safeguards to protect personal information. Public forms may use Cloudflare Turnstile or similar anti-abuse controls to distinguish ordinary visitors from automated or malicious traffic. These security services may process limited technical information such as network, browser and device signals for fraud-prevention and website-security purposes; they are not used by Renew Tech to make buying-price decisions.
Our website and application are hosted using third-party cloud infrastructure, which may process or store information outside South Africa. Where personal information is transferred across borders, Renew Tech will handle the transfer in accordance with POPIA and applicable contractual and legal safeguards.
We do not keep all information for the same period. General enquiries, unsuccessful estimates and operational records are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which they were collected, legitimate business needs, dispute handling or another lawful basis. Where a transaction is completed and the Second-Hand Goods Act or another law requires transaction, identity or related records to be retained, those records will be kept for at least the legally required period. Under the Second-Hand Goods Act, applicable dealer registers and copies of identity documents or passports relating to a transaction must generally be retained for not less than five years from the transaction date.
When information is no longer required and there is no lawful reason to retain it, it will be deleted, destroyed or de-identified in accordance with applicable requirements and Renew Tech's records-management procedures.
Your rights
You may request access to or correction of your personal information and, where the law permits, deletion or objection to processing. A deletion request cannot require Renew Tech to destroy information that it must retain by law or that it lawfully needs for another permitted purpose. To exercise these rights or raise a privacy concern, contact us using the details below.
Security incidents
If Renew Tech has reasonable grounds to believe that personal information has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, we will assess the incident and make notifications required by POPIA and other applicable law.
